Shirakoma Pond sits at an altitude above 2,100 meters high in the Yatsugatake mountains. It is surrounded by dense forests that are home to over 480 species of moss.

There are numerous walking and trekking trails around the pond, allowing visitors to enjoy the area's fresh air and pristine scenery to their heart's content. The trail around the pond takes about 35 minutes and is relatively flat. Another popular trail leads to Takamiishi-koya lodge, where you can climb up some large rocks for excellent views of the pond from above.

The easiest way to access the pond is by car, parking at the paid lot along the Merchen Road (Rt. 299). The pond is just a 10-minute walk from there.
