Located in the town of Shinanomachi in Northern Nagano, Lake Nojiri is a serene body of water surrounded by mountains and forests. A popular retreat during summer, the area offers plenty of outdoor activities such as kayaking, wake boarding, hiking and more.

From December to March, the lake takes on a completely different appearance, covered in Shinanomachi's infamous and heavy snows. While water sports are out of the question, you can enjoy skiing at the local resorts (Tangram and Kurohime Kogen), go snowshoeing, or even fish for smelt.
