Opened in the spring of 1982, the Japan Ukiyo-e Museum houses the largest single collection of ukiyo-e woodblock prints in the world. Started by the Sakai family of wealthy paper wholesalers, their collection covers an impressively wide selection of artists and genres. The museum continues to acquire important works today, preserving this historical slice of Japan’s culture.
