Matsukawa Gorge
Update:2019/09/27
Matsukawa Gorge is located along the Matsukawa River east of Nagano City. Beautiful scenery can be enjoyed along this tributary of the Chikuma River all throughout the year. The area is especially popular in Autumn when tourists come to see the fall foliage. The vast slopes are covered in broadleaf deciduous trees with many varieties of maples. In the spring, the leaves sprout a pretty pale green color, and in the fall turn a prominent shade of red. The gorge is also known for its many waterfalls, with names like Thunder Falls, Eight Falls, and Seven-Spice Falls. Of these, Kaminari (Thunder) Falls with a trail that ventures behind the waterfall is especially worth seeing.
