Karuizawa is a popular resort town along the Hokuriku Shinkansen line connecting Tokyo, Nagano and Kanazawa. With refreshing natural scenery, historical sites and plenty of shops and restaurants, it has something to offer to everyone.
The Karuizawa Cycle Train offers a new way to enjoy Karuizawa on a one-day cycling tour around town and beyond, following the trail of the ancient Nakasendo and Hokkoku Kaido roads. Learn about the history of these roads and see the remnants of their post-towns as you cycle along the Japanese countryside. See a side of Karuizawa and Eastern Nagano that most travelers miss!
The course is about 35 kilometers long, beginning at Karuizawa Station and ending at Tanaka Station. From Tanaka Station, participants ride the Karuizawa Cycle Train back to the starting point. Read about a firsthand experience of the tour here.
